Privacy policy

This policy explains how Thara Holding (“Thara”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects personal data when you use the Thara websites, register for Thara Launch and the Thara Connect Forum, attend the event, or use the Thara Connect app on iPhone or Android. We process personal data in line with the UAE Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021).

Who we are

Thara Holding is responsible for the personal data described in this policy. The event is organised for Thara by its appointed event agency, which handles data only on our instructions. You can contact us about this policy or your data at info@tharahub.ae.

What we collect

We collect only what we need to run registration, the event and the app:

  • Registration details: your name in English and Arabic, job title, organisation, work email, mobile number, nationality, language, LinkedIn profile, the reason for your visit, and your consent choices.
  • Founder and company details, if you apply as a founder or company: company information, sector, stage and funding details, your pitch deck and other files you upload, and your company logo.
  • Identity verification: your Emirates ID or passport number and date of birth, and the result of an identity check made through UAE PASS or our verification partner Didit. Didit checks your document; we keep the result, not the document photos.
  • Your Thara Connect profile: headline, short bio, sectors, stages, markets, what you offer and what you are looking for, who can see your profile, and a profile photo if you add one.
  • Meetings and activity: meeting requests and the notes you add to them, your availability, accepted meetings and table numbers, saved profiles, your check-in at the venue, and follow-up steps agreed after the event.
  • Messages you send us: enquiries and problem reports, with your app version and device model when you report a problem from the app.
  • Technical data: a push notification token while notifications are on, your language setting, and the technical data our hosting providers record to keep the service secure, such as IP address and browser type.

In the Thara Connect app

  • The app uses the same account as this website. You sign in with the email you registered with and a one-time code.
  • Camera: the app uses the camera to read badge QR codes on your device, and to take a profile photo only if you choose to. Scan images are not stored or sent.
  • Photos: if you choose a profile photo from your library, only that photo is uploaded.
  • Notifications: if you allow them, we store a push token so we can send you meeting requests, confirmations, table changes and reminders. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
  • Offline copies: your pass, agenda, programme, venue map and profile are kept on your device so they work without a connection. They are removed when you sign out or delete your account.
  • The app has no advertising, no advertising identifiers and no third-party analytics, and it does not access your location, contacts or files.

How we use your data

  • To review registrations and applications, verify your identity and decide who can attend, as places are limited.
  • To issue and check your entry pass, manage attendance and keep the venue safe and secure.
  • To suggest people to meet, arrange the meetings you request and book meeting tables.
  • To send you the messages you need about your registration, pass and meetings by email, WhatsApp, push notification and in the app, and other event updates you agree to receive.
  • To answer your enquiries and fix problems you report.
  • To share your pitch deck with approved investors, only if you consent.
  • To protect our services against fraud and misuse, and to meet our legal obligations.

Our legal basis

We process your data with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time; where it is needed to register you and provide the event and the app you asked for; and where the law requires it. We never use your data for advertising and we do not sell it.

Who can see your data

  • Authorised Thara staff and our event agency, each limited to what their role needs. ID numbers are encrypted and only the review team can see them.
  • Other participants see only your public profile (name, organisation, role, photo and the profile details you add), never your email or mobile number, and only when your profile settings allow it.
  • The person you invite to a meeting sees your request and the note you add.
  • Approved investors see your pitch deck only if you consent.
  • Public authorities, where the law requires us to share data.

Service providers

These providers process data on our behalf, only to provide their service and under agreements that protect your data:

  • Vercel: website hosting
  • Convex: data storage and processing
  • Clerk: sign-in and account security
  • UAE PASS and Didit: identity verification
  • Resend: email
  • Meta WhatsApp Cloud API: WhatsApp messages
  • Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: push notifications
  • Apple Wallet and Google Wallet: only if you add your pass to a wallet
  • Cloudflare Turnstile: protection against automated sign-ups
  • Google Analytics: website visit measurement, only if you allow it

Transfers outside the UAE

Some of these providers store or process data outside the United Arab Emirates, for example in the European Union and the United States. When data leaves the UAE, we rely on the safeguards the UAE Personal Data Protection Law allows, such as agreements that require providers to protect it to an equivalent standard.

How long we keep it

We keep event data until the end of the post-event follow-up period on 30 November 2026. After that we delete it or make it anonymous, unless the law requires us to keep it longer or we need it to resolve a dispute. If you delete your account earlier, we delete or anonymise your data straight away, as described on the account deletion page.

How we protect it

All data is encrypted in transit. ID numbers are also encrypted in storage, access is limited by role and recorded, uploaded files are checked for malware, and the QR code on your pass holds a signed code with no personal information.

Your rights

Under UAE law you can ask to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, receive a copy of it, and withdraw your consent at any time. Write to info@tharahub.ae and we will reply as soon as we can, within the time the law allows. You can also complain to the UAE Data Office.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time, in the app under Settings or on this website. See how to delete your account and which data is deleted or kept.

Cookies

This website uses essential cookies to work: a sign-in cookie set by Clerk when you sign in, a cookie that remembers your language and one that remembers your cookie choice. With your permission only, we also use Google Analytics cookies to count visits and improve the site; they never receive your name, email, phone number or registration details. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. We do not use advertising cookies.

Children

Thara Launch and the Thara Connect app are for professionals aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with a new date and tell registered guests about significant changes by email or in the app.
